My Dear Brothers and Sisters
I request your prayers for my ailing mother. She is seriously sick. May the Good Lord extend his healing hands on her.
Scripture: Mark 1:40-45
Scripture: Luke 4:14-22 (alternate reading: Mark 6:34-44)
Scripture: Mark 6:45-52 (alternate reading: Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25)
Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12 (alternate reading for January 4: John 1:1-18)John the Evangelist states that when Jesus came into the world the world knew him not and his own people received him not (John 1:10-11). Jesus was born in obscurity. Only the lowly shepherds recognized him at his birth. Some wise men also found their way to Bethlehem to pay homage to the newborn King of Israel. These men were not Israelites, but foreigners. They likely had read and discussed the Messianic prophecies and were anxious to see when this Messianic King would appear. God led them by means of an extraordinary star across the desert to the little town where Jesus was born. In their thirst for the knowledge of God, they willingly left everything, their home and country, in pursuit of that quest. In their diligent search they were led to the source of true knowledge – to Jesus Christ, the Light and Wisdom of God. When they found the newborn King they humbly worshiped him and gave him gifts fitting for a king.
Scripture: John 1:19-28
On this first day of the year 2009, we are celebrating the feast of the divine motherhood of Mary. At the same time we recall to our minds the fact that our Saviour received his holy name, Jesus, on the eighth day after his birth. The motherhood of Mary and the Name of Jesus point to the same mystery of our faith, the Incarnation. In the Name of Jesus we begin this New Year 2009. Our God is gracious and saving and that nothing in the world happens apart from His knowledge and love. Our Mother Mary is here by our side, in our life, in our family, in our community and in our society. Under the patronage of Mary and signed with the name of Jesus, we know that even the darkest hour will be a time of saving grace and outgoing love. The Lord bless us and keep us
The Lord let his face shine upon us and be gracious to us
The Lord look upon us kindly and give us peace today and every day of this year.
Wish you A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR. May the New Year 2009 bring YOU peace and prosperity!
